Victorian horticulture celebrated in Parliament House
By Craig Taberner CEO, Nursery & Garden Industry Victoria
The peak industry body for the Victorian horticulture sector, Nursery & Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV), celebrated the contribution Victorian horticulture makes to Victoria as part of the week-long Annual Horticulture Showcase in Victorian Parliament House.
Minister for Agriculture, Skills and Training, and Higher Education, the Hon Gayle Tierney MLC officially opened the exhibition, with corresponding remarks provided from the Leader of the Nationals, the Hon Peter Walsh MP.
The Showcase focused on the diverse supply chain of the horticulture industry, with NGIV encouraging Members of Parliament to drop-in and discover the size, scale and scope of Victoria’s $2.5 billion horticulture industry, and the essential role it plays in growing healthier environments, communities, and economies for all Victorians.
Victoria is Australia’s home of horticulture. The recently launched industry report, “realisation of growth opportunities within the nursery and garden industry”, commissioned by NGIV and independently prepared by RM Consulting Group provides fact-based recognition of the sector and validates its economic worth.
Parliament House was turned green as Nursery & Garden Industry Victoria representatives highlighted the essential role it plays in growing healthier environments, communities and economies for Victorians.
