A new President and a new trade day facility

By Anita Campbell – CEO Nursery & Garden Industry NSW & ACT (NGINA)

Mr David Jakobs, CEO of Oasis Horticulture, has been appointed as the new President of NGINA. David has served on the NGINA Board since November 2016 and as Vice President since 2018. David is passionately committed to improving the sustainability and productivity of the nursery and garden industry through education, information and collaboration.

David replaces Malcolm Calder who served as President of the Board since November 2019. Andy Cameron, Director of Agnov8 has been appointed as the new Vice President to work alongside David.

The June Trade Day was held in a brand-new pavilion at the far western end of the Hawkesbury Showground. Exhibitors braved the freezing temperatures and transformed the gigantic shed into a sea of green and colour. Please call NGINA if you would like to come along and check it out on (02) 9679 1472.

Our thoughts are with everyone in NSW who was affected by the extreme weather conditions earlier this month. A dangerous weather event delivered torrential rain, damaging winds, flooding and coastal erosion across areas of Greater Sydney and regional NSW. Authorities asked thousands of people to leave their homes, one man lost his life, and the SES have carried out over 500 flood rescues. Many areas surpassed the average rainfall for all of July in less than 24 hours.

Thousands of residents and businesses across NSW who have been affected by severe flooding now have access to immediate financial relief after a natural disaster was declared in their local government area. Details on the available support can be found at the National Recovery and Resilience Agency website at https://recovery.gov.au/new-south-wales-floods-july-2022. If you require support to claim, call Service NSW on 13 77 88.
